Marble Maze Skills
This marble maze is a wonderful learning tool used to teach eye-hand coordination while having fun with a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activity. Part of the STEAM objective here is to first think of how to place the straws to build the maze in a way that will make it a challenge. Then, think of how the marble will move with the movement of your hands on the box. Will the marble move to the left if you move to the left or right? Moving the box from side to side to try and move the marble in the direction of the straws is entertaining and engages problem-solving and memory skills. There is a lot of learning in this “simple” maze activity. It’s perfect for ages 3 and older because of small parts that may be a choking hazard.
Our DIY Marble Maze
We used straws, long and some cut short, tape, marbles, and a box top from a board game. Once the maze has been used a few times and has been mastered, the straws can be moved into a different position to make new mazes.
